Thai Flag

Known as the "City of Angels" (Krung Thep), the city of 10 million is Thailand's largest city. The capital was first established in present-day Thonburi after the fall of Ayutthaya in 1767. When King Rama I moved his capital in 1782 across the river, he chose a site that foreign vessels knew from their navigational charts as the village of Bangkok.

Bangkok is a big monster to tackle. It has a wide mix of history, bustling local markets, modern shopping malls, and rooftop bars to take in the views. You need at least a full week here to hit the main sights, then perhaps a few more days to enjoy the countryside and beach?
