Dalian City Centre Photo Gallery

Dalian is a city of squares. Minzhu Square is to the northeast of Zhongshan Square, but it isn't a pedestrian spot, but more a spacious tram stop, bordered by buildings like this historic one.

I head west along Changjiang Road towards the modern Hotel Nikko.

All the roads lead to some square eventually. Time to explore the side streets ...

The streets do get leafy at times.

Youhao Square is just west of Zhongshan Square, famous for its crystal ball in the centre. Heading north, Russian Street is within walking distance.

Nearby, there is a lot of construction happening as the large CBD takes shape.

Gangwan Square was not mentioned in my tourist literature, but I stopped by after noticing a few handsome historic buildings.

Satisfied, I headed south along Wuwu Road towards Sanba Square.

Just off to the sidestreets near Sanba Square is a vibrant and colourful grocery market.

Arriving at Sanba Square ... newspaper, anyone?

People's Square was originally built for commemorating the Red Army's conquest of northeast China. Today, the city's government calls the square home.

This historic relic has little use today, but makes for a good photograph.

Dalian's public transport backbone comprises of buses. There are double-deckers, but they are a death trap in the summer with an enclosed compartment and no air-conditioning.

Meanwhile, a subway network is under construction.
