Only a short ferry ride from Central, Discovery Bay is a planned car-free community on the southeastern shores of Lantau Island. Its 16,000 residents drive golf buggies around and a huge beach fronts the coast.
In addition to the commuter ferry to Central, there is also a service to another outlying island, Peng Chau.
Hiking trails stretch along the hills behind Discovery Bay, some of which lead to further parts of Lantau, including Mui Wo and even Tung Chung.
From here, you can see all the way to Hong Kong Island.
A rocky and steep dirt trail heads up to Lo Fu Tau, which means tiger's head.
The distant suburb of Tuen Mun is northwest of here. This vantage point is quite wide, stretching from Hong Kong Island to the New Territories.
