Around Sentral

The Aloft Hotel has a nice rooftop swimming pool with views of Sentral station's new developments. There are many tall buildings nearby so it is not possible to see all the way to the Petronas Towers.

On my last visit, walking from the monorail terminus to Sentral was a painful journey around streets and empty plots, making me wonder why they built it there in the first place? Now, a new shopping mall connects the monorail with the LRT station in Sentral, a much-needed improvement. They have come a long way to integrate the transit lines.

The Muzium Negara is located just behind Sentral and will eventually have a subway station in front of it.

Trade between Asian empires flourished in these parts. Various Vietnamese artifacts from the 16th century are on display.

Royal Seal

This betel box is about 150 years old and was used in traditional Malay ceremonies.

This royal seal dates from the 13th century.

The exhibition traces from the Malay kingdoms to colonial times, World War II, and towards independence.

Malaysia Today looks at contemporary events, including the struggle for independence, which was achieved in 1957.

Meanwhile, skyscraper developments are plenty across the street.

Although I arrived just past visiting hours, staff at Masjid Negara allowed me in to sightsee since I wasn't in a big group. The National Mosque has a 73m high minaret and is set on a quiet side street away from the city's bustle.

This was the furthest that I could go, which was quite good already given it was outside visiting hours.

Tourist attractions become more scarce south of Sentral, but the elevated LRT line offers decent views of a lot of construction even as the density falls.

Menara Telekom rises 310m tall and resembles a sprouting bamboo shoot. The twisting shape allows many skygardens to beautify every couple of floors.
