Madrid Photo Gallery - Part 3

Located in the centre of Spain, my trip to Madrid was mostly spent on day trips in surrounding historic towns. My last day in the country was devoted solely to this city, which meant I didn't have time to explore the museums but to skim through the main sites and walk a lot.

I returned back to Sol and still had energy left after walking across the historic centre. I continued east towards Parque del Retiro.

The Museo del Prado is a huge art museum, and one of the must-see attractions in the city. Opened in 1819

Parque del Retiro was designed in French style as a royal retreat. It was my last stop of the day and a great place to relax after a long day walking.

Built in the late 18th century, the Puerta de Alcala is at the northwestern edge of the park, and like many other such monuments, is now part of a traffic circle. From here, I set off back to Sol for my hotel.

Madrid has quite a lot of magnificent and monumental buildings. Madrid's architecture was very different from Barcelona. It's grand, and beautiful, but not as creative as the Gaudi creations.
