Singapore Views from Above

A number of fine dining options are available on Sky on 57. My favourite for views is Justin Quek's restaurant, which faces the main skyline and offers affordable lunches with both French and Chinese twists.

The sun deck was deserted today as patrons enjoyed air-conditioned comfort inside.

There is plenty of land in Marina Bay for further developments.

This place probably gets a lot busier for dinner, so visit during lunch for a piece of the city all by yourself.

Ce La Vi offers a Japanese-style menu on the other side of the Skypark. The open side of this restaurant faces the sea, so you won't get skyline views here. I walked around on the outside after my meal to see what kind of shots I could get.

Level 33 is tucked within Marina Bay's skyscrapers and offers an open space for drinks after work. They are also open for lunch and a late dinner as well.

I wanted to find alternative viewpoints, so headed across downtown to the Carlton Hotel.

The top-floor bar opens before sunset and primarily faces the container port, and not the main skyline.

There is a window next to the elevator that faces Chinatown and the skyline.

Poor people also get views. The Pinnacle @ Duxton appears to be a luxury public housing estate and you can visit the top-floor observation deck for free if you are a resident

From the new financial district, step back in time and watch Marina Bay Sands under construction back in 2009. At the time, there were great prospects of Chinese gamblers making their way south to spend their money. That dream has come to an abrupt end as Beijing drives anti-corruption across government ranks and discourages lavish exuberance.
