Stockholm Photo Gallery - Slussen

Located south of Gamla Stan, Slussen is a major traffic spot between Sodermalm and the historic centre, and well as boat activity to the Baltic. To manage road traffic, a series of cloverleaf roadways opened in 1935. All this is currently under reconstruction, with new traffic, cycling, pedestrian, flood prevention, and drinking water infrastructure being built. This big project is expected to finish by 2027.

I came for a good view. From Slussen metro station, head to the 38m lift next to the bus station. Katarinahissen opened in 1883 using steam power but has since been modernized. At the top, a long bridge connects to the adjacent building's rooftop bar and restaurant. All these locations offer a lovely view of Gamla Stan.

The bridge leads to an uphill part of the city. Mosebacke is named after Moses Israelsson, the son-in-law of a man who managed 2 mills here in the 17th century. This area was a major entertainment centre in the mid-19th century.

Katarina Kyrka was completed in 1695 with King Karl X Gustaf's support. However, much of it was destroyed in a 1990 fire, although the replacement tried to reconstruct the original while saving the surviving walls.

Trying to stray awat from the crowds, I headed to the Hilton hotel next door for a break. I didn't expect it had a line of big windows that offer a pretty good view as well.
