The Skydome opened in June 1989 as home to the local baseball team, the Toronto Blue Jays. Its famous feature is a retractable roof so no event needs to be cancelled due to bad weather. Capable of handling some 54,000 spectators, it was renamed Rogers Centre in 2005.

Next to the CN Tower, Ripley's Aquarium opened in 2013 and is home to some 20,000 aquatic animals. It is the country's largest indoor aquarium and costed $130 million to build with government support.

The Fort York National Historic Site is a 43-acre park near the waterfront just steps from the financial district. This is where Canadians fought against the invading Americans in the War of 1812. The fort was built in 1793 as the primary harbour defence and the military was stationed here until the 1930s.

The Bata Shoe Museum houses some 13,000 artifacts spanning over 4500 years. The best part is admission is pay what you can one evening a week.

The University of Toronto was founded in 1827 and over 62,000 students attend its main campus located downtown. Expectedly, it has a good selection of historic buildings to explore.

The Hudson's Bay store at Yonge and Queen decorated several store windows for the Christmas season.
