Verona Photo Gallery - Town Centre

Verona's historic centre is very walkable and small enough to be explored on foot, with many peach medieval buildings and Roman relics. It came under Venice's rule in the 15th century, when Verona saw its heyday, although it seems Shakespeare has stolen the show.

Piazza delle Erbe was previously a Roman forum and was once a vegetable market.

Elsewhere in the historic centre ...

Casa di Giulietta is supposed to be a romantic place where the famous Juliet would peer on the balcony awaiting her sweet prince. In reality, the house is quite ugly and the balcony is nowhere near romantic. Yet scores of lovers make the pilgrimmage to this place hoping to testify their love to the world.

Romeo and Juliet were not real people and hence never lived in Verona, although tourists come here because they could picture her standing on the beautiful balcony on this 14th century house.

Basilica di Santa Anastasia looked a bit plain outside but don't be fooled. It is very beautiful inside. Verona's largest church was completed in the 15th century in Gothic and Romanesque styles.

The river is not too far from the church. The Adige bends around the historic centre, with a number of picturesque bridges connecting the two sides.
