On a quiet weekend morning, the watefront promenade was deserted.

The MVL Hotel occupies a prime waterfront spot and offers great views.

Although Odongdo is an island just off the coast, there is now a breakwater path connecting it to the mainland. If you can't make the long walk, there is also a tourist train for a more relaxing journey.

The island has many shaded paths with ocean views every now and then.

Hyangiram Hermitage is a long bus ride from the city although the journey is very scenic. The drivers go fast, so you probably won't make much better time in a taxi.

From the bus terminus, keep walking down the small road ahead of it to find the market street.

The steep market street leads uphill on the right to the hermitage's entrance.

This is a seaside town, after all, so there is no shortage of delicious fares from the ocean. The restaurant workers don't speak English though.

They picked the right place for a religious retreat. The hermitage's history goes back to the 7th century and is scattered across the hillside.

The hike up takes quite some time but the paths are wide enough to take a break.

The views are very rewarding.

Turtles are making a pilgrimmage as well and get a coin upon arrival.

These appear to be wish tiles.

This is a popular tourist spot although the crowds are manageable today.
