Just outside the main rail station are 2 covered traditional shopping arcades that slope downhill. There are restaurants offering snacks to go as well as a sit-down option. Local specialities include kaisendon, a sashmi rice bowl from the area's fresh catch, custard pudding, matcha, fish cake, and more.
Heiwa-dori has about 50 shops in total while neighbouring Nakamise-dori has slightly less.



























There is a long line for this fish cake shop where you can get a warm one for immediate consumption or buy a stack to bring home. Staff were on hand to guide the queue and share the menu to customers. Their top 2 choices are octopus and shrimp.








A long walk away closer to the waterfront is the Ginza shopping street, which is mostly a dining destination today with many large seafood restaurants.





While Atami is famous for its pudding shops, other towns around Shizuoka also sell this dessert in small glass jars.
