Bangkok Photo Gallery - Chaophraya River

Thai Flag

Icon Siam is a huge mall on the west side of the river, featuring plenty of shops, restaurants, and a waterfront promenade. It has its own BTS station while river boats also stop here, including hotel shuttle boats from across the river, such as the Shangri-La.

I decided to take the mall's shuttle boats from Sathorn Pier, which is next to the Shangri La and Saphan Taksin BTS station. It charges a minimal fare collected by cash only.

Bangkok has no shortage of grand shopping malls.

Asiatique is south of Sathorn Pier further down the river at former warehouses and sawmills belonging to the East Asiatic Company for trade with Denmark at the turn of the 20th century. The port closed after World War II and it was reborn as a shopping mall in 2012 with free shuttle boats. Its layout features mostly open-air corridors with lots of restaurants facing the river to take best advantage of the views.
