Beijing Photo Gallery - China Railway Museum Part 2

Located far from any metro station in Beijing's northeastern industrial lands, the China Railway Museum is well worth the long trek, with many historic trains outdoors and inside its huge hangar. At only 20 yuan for admission, it's a steal.

Getting here is an adventure, requiring a train plus bus ride. I took Line 14 to Jiangtai, transferring to bus 516 for a further 20 minute journey, followed by a final 1km walk.

Many of the trains on display have both Chinese and English descriptions so this museum is quite foreigner-friendly.

This Class Beijing diesel locomotive was built in 1970 for passenger service. It can run up to 120 km/h and production continued until 1991.

This Dongfanghong class diesel locomotive was built in 1976 and production for the type continuing until 1993 with 450 units built.

This ND5 diesel locomotive was built in 1984 for passenger and freight use.

This Shengli steam locomotive was built in Japan in 1942 and can run up to 100 km/h. It served passengers in north and east China throughout its life.

This Jiefang steam locomotive was built in Japan in 1933 and can run up to 80 km/h.

I decided to pay an extra small admission to visit one interesting train's interiors, and had the special exhibition all to myself. The added price gave me access to several train cars that were connected together for viewing along a one-way route.
