From the North End, it's an easy walk across the North Washington Street Bridge across the Charles River to reach the Freedom Trail's stops in Charlestown. This area is also quite historic, site of a major battle during the Independence war.
The Bunker Hill Monument commemorates the 1775 battle where colonial and British troops fought a bitter battle. Construction of the 67m obelisk started in 1825 and finished in 1843. After 294 steps up, I was disappointed to find the windows at the top to be quite scratched up so the views were no longer impressive, especially the grand skyline shot.
