Changchun's city centre runs along People's Avenue, although the density is not particularly high and the buildings not that tall.
The retail mecca seems to have shifted in warmer quarters underground around Chongqing Lu with a maze of heated shops selling all sorts of goods.
Renamed People's Square, the buildings surrounding it are imposing and was originally a major address under the colonial era.
Further south, a series of pleasant parks and reduced density is disturbed occasionally by the odd highrise.
The other major thoroughfare running perpendicular is Jiefang Da Lu.
