Chongqing Photo Gallery - Huangjueping Graffiti Street

So what is a graffiti-laden neighbourhood doing in China? It all started when a contemporary oil painter suggested beautifying the facades of 37 residential buildings facing the street to improve the old neighbourhood's image. Over 800 people participated and it took 150 days to complete the project from late 2006 into early 2007.

Today, visitors can roam along a 1.25km stretch of Huangjueping Street around the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute to see the buildings and streets covered in various colours.

Since my visit, metro line 18 has opened with a station right at the institute, making access a lot easier.
