Chongqing Photo Gallery - Hongyadong

Hongyadong lights up in spectacular fashion at night. It is now a shopping and dining Disneyland with the interiors full of shops and made to look like a mix of historical scenes. It's actually a recent construction, built in 2006 along the hills sloping down to the river. The site actually has a long history - it was once an ancient city gate.

It does look impressive when lit up as evening approaches, but do also venture inside to explore the narrow alleys, neon lights, and intricate details. They're not historic by any means, but re-creates that old world flavour.

Venturing inside, I quickly realize this place is a victim of its own success. Don't bother waiting for the elevators. Take to the escalators and stairs instead as you head up and down over 10 stories each way to explore.
