Copenhagen Photo Gallery - City Hall

This is Copenhagen's 6th City Hall, built between 1892 and 1905 with a design by Martin Nyrop inspired by Italian town halls. The National Romantic style building has plenty of small details everywhere and is well worth going inside to explore. Visitors are welcome to roam the interiors for free although it costs extra to join a tour to climb the tower.

You enter into the Main Hall, the largest room in the building that is used for public events, elections, and more. The walls are decorated with busts of important Danes, such as Hans Christian Andersen.

The ceiling's ceramic frieze features seagulls flying out the window.

The world's most precise mechanical clock is the work of Jens Olsen that started ticking in 1955. Gilded in 4 kg of gold, it calculates the dates and full moon for the coming year and is wound once a week. The metal faces are coated in rhodium, which is resistant to corrosion.
