Msheireb Downtown is a new smart city built in the heart of Doha. Construction started in 2010 and it took a decade to complete over 100 buildings ranging from 3 to 22 stories.There are 4 museums in the district. Company House was once used as the headquarters for the country's first oil company. The exhibition showcases the industry's growth which transformed the country. Oil was discovered in 1939. At the time, Qatar was a poor country that relied mostly on pearling and fishing. Production at a commercial scale arrived a decade later. On the right is one of the first electrical generators that was shipped to Qatar from the UK. Next door, Bin Jelmood House's exhibition focuses on slavery, which was once a thriving trade around the Indian Ocean. It's a huge house around a courtyard with a basement exhibition hall. Mohammed Bin Jassim House was built by the son of modern Qatar's founder and is now an area history museum.
