Dublin Photo Gallery - Christ Church Cathedral
This church's history dates back to the 11th century as a wooden church outside the Viking settlement. In the late 12th century, it was rebuilt in stone, the building that we see today echoes restorations in the 1870s.Dublin has 2 grand cathedrals just a short walking distance from each other. Nearby St. Patrick's was intended to replace Christ Church, but the two didn't agree on the terms and both stayed put.
While you can pre-book your ticket online, numbers are very limited and I could not secure any availability for the next few days. Undeterred, I went on site to try my luck on a weekday and was able to buy a ticket on the spot.
A few artifacts are on display in the crypt, which has retained its 12th century look, although a large part of it is now a shop.
An interesting pair on display is the mummified remains of a cat and mouse. They are believed to have gone into an organ pipe, got stuck, and then died inside during the 1860s.
