Located just south of the Main River across from the historic Old Town, Sachsenhausen's winding lanes are famous for their many taverns serving apfelwein, an apple wine. Fermented and served in a ribbed glass with a diamond pattern, this tradition is a major part of the city's heritage.
There is even a fountain featuring Mrs. Rauscher, a lady mentioned in a folk song who fiercely holds an apple wine jug. I read it supposedly spits out water irregularly but I wasn't hit during my visit.
Neighbouring streets such as Brückenstraße also have many unique shops worth a stroll. These small boutiques feature a lot of local designers and you won't find any big brand names here.
