Guangzhou Photo Gallery - Insurrectional Martyr Cemetery Park

The Guangzhou Insurrectional Martyr Cemetery Park was built in 1954 to commemorate some 5000 who sacrificed for the Communist Party insurrection here in 1927. The Chinese Communist Party was founded in Shanghai in 1921, who initially co-operated with the Nationalist government under Dr. Sun Yat-sen's vision. Following his death in 1925, Chiang Kai-shek took over and worked with the Communists to rid the warlords and unite the country, but relations soured shortly after when the he purged the Communists in 1927.
