Guildford is a good pit stop while exploring Surrey's historic attractions. It has a beautiful High Street and a castle. Getting here is also easy, with trains from London Waterloo taking about 40 minutes only, with the train station just across the river from the main attractions.Just a short walk out of town is the grand Guildford Cathedral, whose construction began in 1936 but stalled during World War II, finally opening in 1961.
Perched on a hill, you get a good view of the surrounding residential areas.
The interiors are bright and airy, a very different theme than older cathedrals of similar size.
