Kobe Photo Gallery - Maiko Waterfront

20 minutes west of the city by train, Maiko station is your gateway to the riverfront promenade overlooking the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, which was the longest suspension bridge in the world when it opened in 1998. Linking Awaji Island with Kobe, this is part of a road connection between Honshu and Shikoku islands.

With a commanding view of the water and the bridge, the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall opened in 1984 on the former villa of a wealthy Chinese merchant in Kobe. Dr. Sun visited this villa and enjoyed a welcome lunch here with local Chinese businessmen in 1913. The hall opened in 1984 but was forced to move to its present location in 1994 to make way for the bridge's construction.

With a modest admission, I was disappointed with the exhibits inside, but the historic building's features were interesting down to the details.
