The Curiosity Cabinet @ 171 StrandThe Curiosity Cabinet comprises a few windows of displays on the ground floor of 171 Strand in King's College. It is the work of the research by the Faculty of Arts & Humanities. On display in the first half of 2026 is an exhibition on the area's printing history. King's College stands at the heart of the print and book trade since the 16th century. Printers, publishers, and booksellers settled along Fleet Street and the Strand during Victorian times. Wood engraving technology improvements in the 1840s resulted in weekly illustrated newspapers that had images of unfamiliar scenes at the time. At the turn of the 20th century, the area underwent "improvement" schemes that displaced these businesses as the older streets were razed. From these plans, the Royal Courts of Justice and Aldwych rose. The exhibition is presented in the form of a Victorian printshop.
