The Museum of Transport is located a little bit outside the city centre and has a lot of public transport vehicles on display in a listed building that served as a bus garage and tram depot. A bus garage still operates next door today, which has occasional open days of its own.Manchester has several major firsts for public transport. It saw the country's first bus service in 1824 and the world's first passenger-carrying railway in 1830. The museum opened here in 1979 and is run by volunteers.
Several buses are open for visitors to board and explore what it was like to ride in a long-ago era.
