Nara Photo Gallery - City Centre

Nara was Japan's first capital during the 8th century and has a history of over 1300 years. While overshadowed by nearby Kyoto and Osaka today, Nara is a good day trip to make to appreciate both history and culture.

Kohfukuji's history dates back to the 7th century. The 4-storey pagoda stands out and was built in 1426, although its 5 predecessors met a more fiery fate.

The surrounding parklands are serene although aggressive deer peek from the bushes. They are accustomed to humans feeding them so are by no means shy.

Kasuga Taisha Shrine has some 2000 stone lanterns lining its approaches, while the grounds has some 1000 hanging bronze lanterns.
