Perth is the world's most isolated city, and is interestingly closer to Jakarta than to Sydney. British colonists came to Perth in 1829 and convicts arrived in 1850 to start building out the colony. Gold brought prospectors in the 1890s, bringing together Victorian architecture. The Swan River snakes around the city on its way to the Indian Ocean. A great way to experience it an at affordable price is to take the municipal ferry from Elizabeth Quay to Mends Street across the river in South Perth.
The windows open so you can stick your camera out and enjoy the view for the under-10 minute journey.
East Perth's skyline is filling up nicely with many residentials enjoying river views.
South Perth seems like a nice play to live with plenty of greenery but only a short commute from the office.
The skyline views from the waterfront are also quite nice.
The ferry is part of the Transperth public transport network so a regular ticket works as well. Cash tickets have an expiry time printed on it, which allows you to ride any number of bus, train, and ferry routes during the period. |
