Rotterdam Photo Gallery - Boompjes

Rotterdam's city centre was almost entirely destroyed during bombings in 1940. As part of redevelopment efforts, new skyscrapers rose along the Boompjes boulevard waterfront.

Starting from the Witte Huis, one of few survivors from the bombing, I headed west along the waterfront promenade. The first major building is the Willemswerf, an office building completed in 1989.

Completed in 2021, the 110m=high Terraced Tower is a residential building touted as an expression of happiness. You get river and city views, dining, and fitness facilities here. Homes here have large terraces that extend their living space, with glass railings to improve visibility.

Continuing on, next door is Clubhouse Boompjes, which comprises 2 residential buildings that rise 70m and 100m with a total of 342 apartments, some of which are designated as co-living spaces with shared communal areas such as the kitchen. While the original design called for 1 tower, it was then split into 2 to allow more natural lighting and corner apartments.
