The Nieuwe Instituut is one of several museums in Rotterdam's "museum quarter". Focusing on architecture, design, and digital culture, the ground floor exhibition area has a "gardening" theme to it from propaganda posters to work tools.Upstairs, there are more Dutch design elements from the past 30 years. The top floor is geared towards children on what they hope the future will look like. Even their bathroom on the ground floor behind the lockers have a special design motif. Visits are free on Thursday evenings from 5pm onwards. Across the street is a big reflection of the city's skyline on the Depot of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, an art storage facility that is quite unique in being open to the public. This place is home to over 155,000 items collected over 175 years and preserved. Opened in late 2021, the circular building rises 39.5m and is the work of architectural firm MVRDV. The mirrored facade comprises of 6609 sq m of glass in 1664 panels.
