Cite Bourgogne was built in 1930 and consists of 78 lane residence buildings. The number of entrances have been restricted by placing these metal gates although visitors can freely enter and explore.
Shikumen is a distinct residential building style in Shanghai, which was popular from the late 19th century until the 1930's. It contains architectural characteristics from both Chinese and European terrace house design.
