Japan has a rich array of different trains and can be a wonderful spotting paradise. With the Mount Fuji - Shizuoka Area Tourist Pass, I got to try a number of JR as well as private operator lines.
Some rolling stock are quite ancient but have been well-maintained and spotless.


The Izukyu Railway runs along the eastern coast of the Izu Peninsula through beautiful scenery. This special sightseeing train features seats that are parallel to windows so passengers can enjoy the ocean views.










The Izu-Hakone Sunzu Line runs about 20km between Mishima and Shuzenji, an onsen town deep in the mountains.
