Costing some USD$1.3 billion, The 6.5km Xinyi Line opened in November 2013 with 7 stations, connecting to Taipei 101. It has since been integrated with the Tamsui (red) Line.

The Taoyuan MRT line was approved in 2004 and opened 13 years later amidst controversy in March 2017. Costing over TWD $113 billion to build, the project repeatedly missed deadlines due to various reasons, including substandard construction materials and the signaling system. Check-in facilities are available at Taipei Station for some airlines, and the quickest trains take just over half an hour to reach the airport.
