Takayama Photo Gallery

The historic market area has good historic architecture and lots of shops. I opted to overnight in the town rather than making a day trip out of nearby cities so to take advantage of quieter mornings.

Across the river, the Jinya-mae Morning Market offers more shopping opportunities for local produce.

Takayama Jinya was a government branch office from 1692 to 1868, with the current structure dating from 1816.

The building housing today's City Archives Museum was completed in 1895 with its interiors decorated with local cypress.

The Hirata residence was a shop for over 10 generations. Today, it is a museum showcasing its history, as well as many pieces of art.

A few blocks away from the historic market street, the Museum of History and Art is free and open until late. It spans across multiple restored warehouses.
