Takayama Photo Gallery Part 3

Behind the main town along the eastern hills is a temple area called Higashiyama. Modeled after Kyoto, the area was created by the Kanamori family, who ruled the Hida area for 107 years until 1692.

Beyond the temples, walk through the residential area and cross the river to Shiroyama Koen, the site of Takayama Castle's ruins.

Shiroyama Koen has quite thick forests and uneven paths. The odd bear warning sign also unnerves visitors that these giant beasts may still lurk in the city.

After conquering the steep ascent and the bears, the reward is a nice view of the city.
