The Town of York is Toronto's birthplace. Located east of Yonge Street, it is now a mix of historic buildings and modern residences, all well-connected by streetcar to the financial core. St. James Cathedral is an Anglican church that once guided ships into the harbour, but now sits surrounded by taller buildings.

St. Lawrence Hall was built in 1851 and is now used for all sorts of events.

The Flatiron Building takes advantage of its triangular lot and was the head office of the Gooderham and Worts distilling company when it was built in 1892.

Revitalized as a new tourist destination in 2003, the Distillery District consits of 47 Victorian industrial buildings that once were part of the Gooderham & Worts Distillery into arts and entertainment precinct. In December, this area hosted a large Christmas market.
