Belfast Photo Gallery - SS Nomadic

The Titanic Quarter is a huge regeneration project that started in 2005 with a plan to bring new life to former shipyards. It now has new homes, offices, and a huge museum dedicated to the Titanic, which was conceived, designed, and built here at Harland & Wolff's shipyards.

Titanic Belfast is the key attraction in the area, showcasing the famous luxury liner's creation and construction. Next door on display is SS Nomadic, the Titanic's tender ship and stood at 1/4 its size. She was launched in 1911 and transferred first and second class passengers from Cherbourg's port out to the Titanic. She served for other transatlantic vessels but her final days before being saved were not as dignified, serving as a restaurant and party venue in Paris.

The Titanic Hotel now occupies Harland & Wolff's Drawing Offices, which were built in the late 1880s and subsequently expanded many times as the shipyard grew. The 3-storey high barrel-vaulted ceilings are unique as they are the only surviving ones of this type at shipyards.

The company was an expert in designing and building large passenger vessels with over 1700 vessels on its record. They left these offices in 1989 and the building was abandoned for almost 30 years before regeneration arrived in 2016.
