Cardiff has quite a lot of covered shopping arcades for a city of its size. Even London doesn't have so many over such a small area. Each has its own unique architectural style and there are a lot of independent shops on offer for a good browse. My first stop is Dominions Arcade, the most disappointing one of the set. It was short, dark, and there wasn't much activity happening here. Built in 1921, this is the newest of the city's 7 arcades.
Duke Street Arcade was completed in 1902 with a painted floor and curved route, connecting it with High Street Arcade., which was built in 1885.
Built in 1896, Morgan Arcade has a more upscale feel. Along with Royal Arcade, which dates from the 1850s and is the city's oldest arcade and first shopping centre, the area is known as the Morgan Quarter.
Built in the 1880s, Castle Arcade starts just across the street from Cardiff Castle with an upstairs floor for a different view of the architecture.
The last one on my itinerary is Wyndham Arcade, built in 1887 with a Victorian red brick arch entrance.
