Taichung Photo Gallery - Changhua Sights

Taiwan Flag

Changhua was founded in the 17th century and used to be Central Taiwan's commercial heart until it was eclipsed by Taichung in the late 19th century. While I came primarily to visit the Roundhouse, I also spent a little time exploring the city centre's sights.

Yuanqing Taoist Monastery was built with funds from Quanzhou migrants, who came to Taiwan from Fujian province across the strait. This brick-wood complex dates from the mid-1700s and worships the Jade Emperor.

The Confucius Temple was built in 1726 and houses commemorative inscripts by President Chiang Ching-kuo and Emperor Qianlong from the Qing Dynasty.

Changhua is only a short train ride away from Taichung's main train station on the slower TRA trains, taking as little as 13 minutes.

While the train station's exterior has been spruced up, the bus station across the street remains rustic.
