The Wehrhahn Line is a light rail extension that connects Wehrhahn and Bilk S-bahn stations and includes a new 3.4 km tunnel underneath the city centre. It all started with an international design competition in 2001 and construction began in 2007. Costing over 840 million euros, the extension with its 6 stations opened in February 2016. Today, 4 U-bahn lines operate along this stretch. In collaboration between the artists, engineers, and government, each station has its own unique artistic design and I couldn't find advertising anywhere. Besides this section, Dusseldorf has a good U-bahn network with many lines. However, for tourists, it's perfectly walkable between attractions as the city centre is relatively small.
