Edinburgh Photo Gallery - Living in New Town
Just beyond the set of grid streets that make up New Town's commercial area today are beautiful residential areas with small alleys and park-laden traffic circles with the Water of Leith's parks nearby. The Moray Estate gets its name from the 10th Earl of Moray who lived from 1771 to 1848. he inherited the site and developed the property in 1822 with Randolph Crescent, Ainslie Place, and Moray Place laid out. This area is a treasure trove of Georgian architecture and continues to be a popular and prestigious residential area.
The Royal Circus was part of the first extension of the New Town planned in 1802. To serve its residents, Circus Lane is a beautiful curved mews lane with lowrise residential homes and a church in the background to give it a bit more flavour and a photographer's hotspot. Residents of this "Instagram Alley" have complained their quiet street has become too crowded with tourists.
The lane ends at a bar overlooking St. Stephen's Church.
