Kaohsiung's MRT is almost 45km long and consists of 2 lines. Formosa Boulevard is an interchange station with a magnificent underground open space. The Dome of Light is the work of Italian artist Narcissus Quagliata, and puts on a show several times a day. Station entrances have a modern design and are quite spacious. The city's historic railway station is being renovated with a design from Dutch company Mecanoo. The central hall opened in 2018 as part of a new 15km section of underground suburban railway. A new light rail line opened in 2017. The first phase is almost 9km long with 14 stations. Tourist sightseeing buses have started to appear in this city.
