Kaohsiung Photo Gallery
The southern part of Taiwan is not always prominent on the international tourist's radar. Kaohsiung is Taiwan's 2nd largest city and is a major port.
During the Japanese colonial era, raw materials were exported from Kaohsiung's port, and the city grew from reclamation. The port was bombed by the Allies during World War II, but re-emerged afterwards as a heavy industry zone. It is now trying to shed away its industrial and polluted past with many urban regeneration projects, and offers a cheaper alternative to Taipei, a 90 minute high-speed train ride away.
