Yokohama Photo Gallery - Japan Coast Guard Museum

Just across from the Red Brick Warehouses is a captured North Korean spy ship on display at the Japan Coast Guard Museum.

In December 2001, the ship self exploded and sank southwest of Kyushu. It initially refused to obey the Japan Coast Guard's order to stop and attacked their petrol boats that approached. Recovered items suggest the ship was used to transport drugs and secret agents into Japan.

The ship was about 30m long and resembled a fishing vessel, but it had 4 engines and a machine gun installed.

The spy ship stored a smaller boat inside that was over 11m long and equipped with a squid fishing lamp as camouflage.

There were also a lot of recovered artifacts on display as well.
